Go Preach the Gospel

Mark 16:15-16 Then he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

    1. In the world, not of the world. – John 17.11-20
    2. You must be different to make a difference.
      1. To be the “salt of the earth” (Matt 5.13), you cannot “taste” like the world.
      2. Friendship with the world is hostility toward God. – James 4.4
      3. Don’t participate in fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them.
        – Ephesians 5.11
      4. Condoning sin = practicing sin – 2 John 1.10-11; Romans 1.32
    3. We can only be a “light of the world,” if the world can see us. – Matt 5.14-16
      1. Do not be ashamed of the gospel or afraid. – Romans 1.16-17; 2 Timothy 1.7-8
      2. Get out of your comfortable bubble.

      2. Without gimmicks or watering it down. – Rom 1.16-17
      3. A free gift that costs everything – Luke 9.23; 14.25-33; Galatians 2.20
    2. A command to all disciples. – Ephesians 4.11-12
      1. If you say, “I can’t,” you blame God. – Exodus 4.10-14
      2. The correct attitude: “Here am I; send me.” – Isaiah 6.8
    3. You must use words.
      1. Being a “good example” is not enough.
      2. The gospel is always spread by spoken word. – Rom 10.11-17; Acts 9.6; 11.14
      3. The gospel is to be proclaimed by ordinary people (clay jars). – 2 Cor 4.5-7

    1. A command to “make disciples.”
      1. Two parts:
        1. Baptizing them. – Matthew 28.19
        2. Teaching them. – Matthew 28.20
      2. To “make disciples” (Mtt 28.19), you need preachers, teachers, admonishers, listeners, & encouragers.
    2. It is a team effort.
      1. Sometimes, it means preaching alone.
      2. Jesus, Apostles in Acts, & Paul all had helpers to fulfill their ministry.
        1. Women financially supported Jesus & apostles – Luke 8.1-3
        2. Apostles appointed servants so they could dedicate their time to “prayer and ministry of the word.” – Acts 6.1-4
      3. Be a master at one role & proficient in all.

  1.  Go to All Creation
    1. Every soul deserves to hear the gospel once.
    2. Without prejudice, enmity, or fear. – cf. Matthew 13.1-23
    3. We need to love people the way God loves them.

      2. 1 John 3:16 This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
    4. Go in the ways you can locally.
    5. If you can’t go, support those who can.
      1. Sending financial support = partnership in the gospel. – Philippians 1.5
      2. Actively pray for individuals who are laboring in the gospel. – Eph 6.19-20
      3. Pray for more laborers to be sent out. – Mt 9.37-38

Discussion Questions

  1. What gets in the way “going into all the world to preach the gospel to all creation?”

  2. What is the solution to each of these barriers?

  3. If not “everyone should become teachers” (James 3.1), how can non-teachers obey Mark 16.15?
