Three Things God Can’t Do
- God Cannot Act Against His Nature
- God cannot lie. – Titus 1.2; Hebrews 6.16-18; Numbers 23.19
- God cannot forget His Promises.
- God has a history of fulfilling promises – Joshua 23:14; Psalm 27.1-3
- We can have hope since He who promised is faithful. – Hebrews 10:23
- Jesus’ delayed return isn’t a failed promise. Instead, He is patient. – 2 Peter 3.3-9
- God ALWAYS keeps His promises. – Deuteronomy 7.9
- God does not change. – Malachi 3.6; James 1.17; Psalm 102.25-27
- Even if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.
– 2 Timothy 2.13 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. – Hebrews 13.8

- Application – We can trust in God.
- In His promises to hear, protect & save, and in the return of Jesus.
- In His promises to punish evil doers.
- God Cannot Forgive Without Atonement
- God cannot condone sin because He is pure and holy.
- God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. – 1 John 1.5
- You [God’s] eyes are too pure to look on evil, and you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. – Habakkuk 1.13
- He cannot be tempted by evil. – James 1.13
- God cannot be unfair because He is a just judge.
- A faithful God, without bias, he is righteous and true. – Deuteronomy 32.3-4
- For the Lord to be fair, all sin must be punished.
- He will not leave the guilty unpunished. – Exodus 34.6-7
- The wages of sin is death. – Romans 6.23
- Jesus is the atoning sacrifice who takes away sin. – John 1.29
- Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. – Hebrews 9:22
- But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities … the LORD has punished him for the iniquity of us all. – Isaiah 53:5-6
- Jesus is both just and the justifier to those who have faith. – Romans 3.35-36
- Application
- I cannot earn salvation through effort, works, or merit because of my sin.
- Submissive faith in Jesus is the only way to be saved.
- I need to be humble both before God and others.
- God cannot condone sin because He is pure and holy.
- God Cannot Love You More Than He Already Does
- God loves us because that is who He is. – 1 John 4.7-8; John 3.16
- We do not deserve God’s love because of sin.
- All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. – Romans 3.23
- Sin separates us from God – Isaiah 59.2
- But God loves us despite how we have treated Him. – Romans 5.6-8
- God cannot give a more precious gift than Jesus.
- We were dead in sin, but God made us alive by grace. – Ephesians 2.1, 4-5
- Nothing is “able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8.38-39
- There will never be a new “New Testament.” Jesus is the only solution.
- We have been given “everything required for life and godliness” – 2 Pet 1.3
- There will never be a new way to be saved other than Jesus. – Hebrews 6.4-6
- If we deliberately sin, Jesus’ sacrifice no longer applies to us.– Heb 10.26-27
- Application
- We can know we are valued and loved because of the price that was paid.
- If we say we are a Christian, but continue in deliberate sin, we spurn the love of Jesus. – Matthew 7.21-23
- If we turn against Jesus, there will never be a better gift offered to us.
